Here are the blurbs of the candidates running for the 2010 AUMSA Exec position (proceed to read more section)
AUMSA 2010 Election Candidates PRESIDENT: Zach Kidman Kia ora, On our current trajectory 2010 provides a series of challenges for medical students. There is no panacea or fix-all solution. However, I am a firm believer that student advocacy can achieve positive outcomes. For AUMSA to be successful in 2010, it is crucial that the executive is open to medical students concerns and ideas. I will continue to drive the process of constitutional review and manage an enthusiastic executive dedicated to effective student representation. The role of AUMSA President will not be an easy one but I am committed to the challenge. Vote Zach Kidman for President. VICE PRESIDENT: Ben Harley Hi guys, I’m Ben and I want to be VP to address some of the critical issues that students are currently facing. These are issues like: the Grafton redevelopment plans, construction noise and maintaining our parking rights on campus, to name just a few. My PURPOSE is work on behalf of all students towards manageable goals that reflect the needs of the student body. WE CAN achieve a great deal if we together and I hope you put your faith in me to get the job done. All the best, Ben Harley Craig Riddell Hi. I’m Craig Riddell, and I want to be your Vice-President for 2010. I brought you candyfloss in the quad not just as a stunt, but to show my great organisational skills. I’m outgoing and committed to being your advocate by taking your ideas and ensuring that AUSMA does the best job of meeting your needs. My vision is to create solutions for problems faced by both pre-clinical and clinical years so everyone gets the best education with increasing cohorts, and fun memories. With my previous executive experience I will do the best job for you. Vote Craig for VP! SECRETARY: Dongah Kim Hi! I'm Dongah and I'd like to be your Secretary for 2010. Why vote for me? Because I'm organised, great at note taking...I must admit I don’t have the most amazing typing skills but I still managed to be a personal assistant during the holidays so hopefully my skills are sufficient for this role. If I'm voted for secretary I'll give it my best and I think that it will be a fun way of being more involved in med school. So yeah, please vote Dongah for Secretary. TREASURER: Lance Yuan Hey guys! I’ve had a fantastic week campaigning to represent you guys as Treasurer for 2010. I think I would be great for the role as I’ve had experience in accounting and financial management for businesses and have been part of the Management Consulting Club for the past 2 years. I’m dedicated to raising more money from sponsorships for even better events and supporting more clubs next year. I will advocate for more subsides towards travel-funds and food e.g. subway. I’m keen to learn how you want your money spent and show greater transparency in where your money is going. Sam Seleq My name is Sam Seleq (aka Mini Muff!) and I’m running for AUMSA Treasurer 2010. I’d make an awesome treasurer because I have vast hands-on experience in invoicing, budgeting, and administration through many different jobs and I have the organizational skills and dedication required for the role of treasurer. You need a treasurer that can be part of the team that takes AUMSA into the future, where great student advocation, great magazines, and great events become even better. ND: Alisha Vara, Duncan Shannon and Rupert Nelson Vote Rupert, Alisha and Duncan, vote RAD for ND! We had cupcakes and condoms. There is a link between cupcakes and condoms. Pope Benedict deems cupcake wrappers the form of contraception acceptable to Catholicism. That’s because he disapproves of the exuberance displayed by the condom companies when they release condoms in flavours such as strawberry, orange, banana, cucumber and tzatziki (I actually made that last one up – note to self: email Durex). And now the Labour party agrees with him and believes that government-funded condoms shouldn’t be flavoured (hence the expression “screwing the taxpayer”). I’m rambling. Vote RAD for ND. Asher Henry, Anthony Brownson, Sasa Selvic and Laura Ruawai-Hamilton ND is the Biomag of Grafton. It works to sooth and relieve stress, probing deeply while keeping the superficial parts succulent and juicy. Relying mainly on word of mouth testimonials, it shrouds itself in mystique - no one seems to know how it works, but everyone seems to love it, especially the free delivery. And like their shameless celebrity endorsements, we too are prepared to sell out for the 'mag, with enough leading interviews, opinionated rants and sensationalism to put the NZ Herald to shame. Vote Fantastic 4 ND, and sleep well tonight. WELFARE: Daniela Reyes and Marianne Kim We are two 2nd year medical students running for Welfare 2010.
